These pages are dedicated to the brief but colourful history of Hastings Speedway which existed in the late 1940s. Research into the events that surrounded the club is still continuing and more will be added as time goes on. Come back frequently. Hastings must have the very few speedway stadiums where over 50 years on, much of the original cinder track still remains along with many of the clues to its former glory. One of the main reasons for this page is in tribute to my dad, who passed away a number of years ago. He helped build the original speedway track at the Pilot Field This update: 04/03/2019 New pictures added, New Gallery 4 page added, Various Information updated and some programme covers added May the spirit of Hastings Speedway and the bravery of its riders live in your fondest memories forever. Please do not STEAL images from this site. I rarely turn down a polite request to use these images on other sites. PLEASE ASK!!! It is not only copyright infringement, it is disrespectful to me and all of those people who have contributed to this site to make it what it is as a memory to Hastrings speedway and all those who rode for the club and worked in the background. Above: Frank Bettis . A local speedway rider who I knew through being a friend of his son Ross. Many may remember him running Frank Bettis Autos in Hastings for many years. His son Ross is still living in Hastings. As time goes by the search for new material becomes harder to come by and hence it is difficult to update the site. I am always looking for more information and photos: Email Me More recently I have had difficulties with receiving emails from this site although these are now resolved. I apologise if you have not received a reply to an email, but this does not mean I value your feedback and offers of photos and memories any less. Please email me again and I will get back to you. Links We acknowledge and thank those people who have contributed or provided material - This whole local Hastings community was deeply saddenned by the tragic and untimely death of local rider Lee Richardson in an horrific crash whilst racing in Poland during 2012. Lee Stewart Richardson (Born 25 April 1979 in Hastings and Died 13 May 2012) represented Great Britain at senior and under-21 level and featured in several World Cup tournaments. Richardson was World Under 21 champion in 1999 and also won the Elite League Riders’ Championship in 2003. He was also a fully fledged Grand Prix rider for four seasons from 2003 until 2006. Richardson joined the Lakeside Hammers for the 2009 season. On 13 May 2012, Richardson died of internal bleeding in a Wrocław hospital following a collision with a safety fence during a Polish League match. A superb rider and and really decent person. RIP...
